Stramash Social Enterprise

Winner
Stramash enables local young people to experience life changing outdoor adventures, providing them them with the opportunity to develop personal and social skills and enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle.

Stramash inspires life through adventure. We use the outdoors to help children, young people and adults discover their full potential through life-changing experiences. Using challenge and adventure, we help build people’s confidence and self-esteem.

What does your charity/project do?

Children, young people, families, schools & community groups all benefit from the work of the Stramash team. Adventure, exploration, outdoor learning and challenge are all part of what Stramash uses to help make a real difference in people’s lives. As a charity and social enterprise, we invest our resources back into the communities where we work. Our work makes a positive impact on those most in need in our communities. Our projects help build relationships and encourage personal development.

How does your charity/project support the local community?

We recognise the wide range of personal, physical and social benefits that outdoor learning and adventure has to offer. Our aim is to bring these benefits to the local community. We achieve this through our projects, including: the Stramash Apprenticeship Scheme; Adventure Clubs; outdoor learning programmes for schools; partnerships with social work and youth organisations. We also provide many volunteering opportunities; the volunteers gain skills and a sense of achievement in helping others.

What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?

It would be used to make a positive difference to people’s lives. Local families and young people will be given access to outdoor experiences which, by reason of personal difficulties or financial hardship, they would not otherwise have. We would also use it to support the continuance of our Apprentice Scheme, which provides the invaluable chance for local young people who are not in education, training or employment to gain confidence, build self-esteem and develop employment and life skills.
