A girls only community school of football. Giving all girls aged from 4 to 13 the opportunity to participate in football regardless of ability, race or background. The girls not only keep fit but learn a number of new valuable social skills

What does your charity/project do?

Musselburgh Windsor Girls Community School of football gives ALL girls 4 weeks free football and the opportunity to be part of a team. The girls football is open to anyone aged between 4 & 13 years old. It not only gives the girls a sense of belonging but also promotes a healthy lifestyle. We currently have teams at U13s, U11s and U9 age groups all playing in local leagues, whilst our players aged 4 to 7 play for fun amongst themselves.

How does your charity/project support the local community?

As the girls only community school of football is for ALL girls within the local community, it allows the girls to interact with other girls, they would not normally interact with. We are seeing the positives from this already as they have forged friendships with each other, which has made the transition to high school easier for them. As our U13s are currently through to the 1/4 fnals of the Scottish Cup, the name of Musselburgh is being heard all over Scotland, raising the profile of the town.

What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?

Money awarded would be spent on providing training kit and strips for all players, purchasing further equipment and covering the cost of facilities. As a club we take the girls for days away to encourage the girls to build friendships away from the football field. We have also tried to help encourage the girls stay active out with the club by subsidising football camps during the school holidays, as we are aware that not all families can cover the cost of sending their children to these things.
