Dumfries Hockey Club
Setting up a junior section within the club and enabling young people (up to under 16 level) to experience and play hockey within the region and compete with clubs from outwith the region.
What does your charity/project do?
We are the only mens & ladies hockey club playing competative hockey within Dumfries & Galloway. The club has had a number of successes recently & is looking to build on that success by setting up a junior section. With junior hockey through other avenues in the region in decline, this will provide the only opportunity some children will have to play competative hockey. The club can provide coaches with experience of coaching at junior international, national & district level
How does your charity/project support the local community?
The club is open to players of all levels and will encourage as many as possible to participate at junior level. The club ran a couple of trial junior coaching sessions last year which established that there is considerable demand for junior hockey within the region at both under 10 and under 14 levels
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
The funding will only be spent in relation to the junior section. This will include pitch lets for junior coaching/matches, junior equipment for playing, training & goalkeeping and assistance with the training of coaches - to be able to expand the junior section where possible.
